Malta’s Keith Galea has secured a European silver medal after finishing second in the 35–39 Open Age-Group Sprint at the 2026 Europe Triathlon Age-Group Championships Tarragona.
World Triathlon lists Galea in second place with a finishing time of 1:00:31, competing for Malta on 13 June.
The championships are being held in Tarragona, Spain, from 13 to 14 June, with age-group sprint and standard-distance races forming part of the programme.
According to Pro Tri Data, Ross McGregor won the category in 59:51, with Galea finishing just 40 seconds behind. Dustin Naser completed the podium in third, 1 minute and 25 seconds behind the winner.
Speaking to Mela Bongu, Galea described the field as strong and competitive, saying he stayed inside the top three throughout the race before the result was decided in the final 5km of the run.
The result comes shortly after another major domestic achievement for Galea. MaltaSport reported that he won the National Middle Distance Championship title at Salini in May, finishing that race in 2:51:22.
Galea said the European silver was another important result for himself, but above all for Malta.
The medal adds another international podium finish to Maltese triathlon and underlines Galea’s continued consistency across local and European competition.
