It’s National Mojito Day, making it the perfect excuse to enjoy one of the world’s most refreshing cocktails.
Originating in Cuba, the classic mojito combines fresh mint, lime, white rum and soda water to create a light, citrusy drink that’s especially popular during the summer months.
If you’d like to make one at home, here’s an easy recipe.
Ingredients
1 lime, cut into wedges
8–10 fresh mint leaves
2 teaspoons sugar (or sugar syrup)
50ml white rum
Ice
Soda water
Method
- Place the lime wedges, mint leaves and sugar into a sturdy glass.
- Gently muddle the ingredients to release the lime juice and mint oils.
- Fill the glass with ice.
- Pour in the white rum.
- Top with soda water and stir gently.
- Garnish with a sprig of fresh mint and a lime wedge before serving.
For a fruity twist, you can also add fresh strawberries, passion fruit or watermelon before muddling.
Whether you’re celebrating with friends or simply relaxing at home, a homemade mojito is an easy way to mark the occasion.
Please drink responsibly.
