Aki London has reached an important milestone after being listed in the Michelin Guide less than a year after opening its doors in the UK capital.
The restaurant is the London branch of the Malta-born Aki concept, which first built its name in Valletta before expanding overseas. Aki Malta describes itself as a Michelin-recommended restaurant in the heart of Valletta, focused on modern Japanese dining with Mediterranean touches.
Aki London is located at 1 Cavendish Square, close to Oxford Circus. The venue sits inside a restored Grade II-listed former bank, with the brand saying the London space brings Kyoto-inspired craftsmanship together with the energy of the city.
Michelin’s listing describes Aki London as a contemporary Japanese restaurant and highlights its brasserie-style setting, statement cocktail bar and open kitchen. The guide also notes dishes including sashimi, maki, nigiri, robata cooking and Wagyu beef cuts.
The recognition is not the same as receiving a Michelin star, but being included in the guide is still a respected endorsement. Michelin says its inspectors dine anonymously and pay for their meals in full to maintain independence.
For Malta’s hospitality scene, the listing is a positive sign of a local restaurant concept gaining visibility beyond the islands. From Valletta to London, Aki’s latest recognition puts another Malta-linked name on the international food map.
