Two enormous pieces of traditional festa work have earned national-record recognition for the Kummissjoni Żgħażagħ Tat-Tamal within the Għaqda tal-Mużika San Gejtanu A.D. 1906 in Ħamrun.
The Malta Records said it was invited to Ħamrun by supporters known as Tat-Tamal to present two records as part of a surprise during Saturday night’s celebrations.
One recognised the scale of the artwork painted onto a traditional bandalora. The other concerned the sheer size of the bandalora itself.
Record One: A 5.5-Metre-High Festa Painting
The first record was awarded for what The Malta Records describes as the largest painting on a traditional bandalora used during a town or village festa.
The painted section measured:
5.50 metres high
3.30 metres wide
According to The Malta Records, this broke a previous record connected with the festa of Marija Addolorata in San Pawl il-Baħar and the Sacro Cuor festa in Tas-Sliema.
Record Two: A Bandalora Almost 13 Metres High
The second achievement was described as a new national record for the largest traditional bandalora used during a town or village festa.
And this one came with some substantial dimensions.
The bandalora measured:
12.80 metres high
9.75 metres wide
Photos shared with the announcement show the large red-and-gold festa creation raised above supporters in Ħamrun, alongside the presentation of record certificates.
Part Of Ħamrun’s San Gejtanu Celebrations
The records were announced on one of the busiest weekends of the year for Ħamrun.
For the Kummissjoni Żgħażagħ Tamlin, the two recognitions put measurable numbers behind something festa enthusiasts already know well: these temporary street creations can involve work on a very large scale.
In this case, two records, two traditional bandalori achievements and one Saturday-night surprise in Ħamrun.
