Festa season is showing no signs of slowing down, with eight communities across Malta and Gozo preparing to celebrate this Sunday, 23 August.
From Santa Liena in Birkirkara to Santa Marija in Żebbuġ, Gozo, the Maltese Islands will come alive with decorated streets, traditional band marches, religious celebrations and plenty of festa atmosphere.
Here are the eight celebrations taking place:
- Ħad-Dingli: The Assumption of Our Lady, better known as Santa Marija
- Santa Luċija: St Pius X
- Birkirkara: St Helen, better known as Santa Liena
- Tas-Sliema: Stella Maris, or Our Lady Star of the Sea
- Mġarr, Malta: The Assumption of Our Lady, or Santa Marija
- Bubaqra, Żurrieq: The Assumption of Our Lady, or Santa Marija
- Paola: Our Lady of Lourdes
- Żebbuġ, Gozo: The Assumption of Our Lady, or Santa Marija
Seven of these are included in the Archdiocese of Malta’s official 2026 parish-feast calendar.
The eighth celebration, taking place in Bubaqra, does not appear separately because Bubaqra forms part of Żurrieq and is not a parish of its own. However, the local church dedicated to Santa Marija has confirmed that its festivities will run from 19 to 23 August, culminating this Sunday.
While Sunday marks the principal feast day, celebrations in several localities will begin earlier in the week, with each community following its own programme of religious events, band marches, fireworks and other festivities.
Anyone planning to attend should check the latest programme published by the respective parish or festa organisers, as schedules and activities vary between localities.
With eight communities celebrating on the same day, there will be no shortage of festa spirit across Malta and Gozo this weekend.
