At 74 years old, Polly Micallef has shown that Birkirkara’s festa spirit certainly has no age limit.
Polly caught people’s attention during the celebrations as she enthusiastically joined fellow festa-goers in the heart of the action.
A photograph from the festivities captures her smiling while being carried above the crowd, surrounded by people dressed in Birkirkara’s colours.
Her enthusiasm also prompted a warm tribute from the Duke of Connaught’s Own Band Club of Birkirkara.
The club wrote:
“U nanna Polly Micallef reġet għamlitha. Grazzi ma tal-pjaċir li dejjem tajtna.”
The moment is a simple but memorable example of what Malta’s traditional festas are all about — bringing generations together through community, tradition and plenty of enthusiasm.
The Duke of Connaught’s Own Band Club forms part of Birkirkara’s longstanding festa tradition and participates in the celebrations surrounding the locality’s Feast of St Helen.
Polly, meanwhile, clearly has no intention of watching from the sidelines.
At 74, she is still right in the middle of the celebrations and enjoying every second.
