Ħamrun Event To Celebrate New School Year With Family Fun And Community Support

Children, parents and educators are being invited to celebrate the beginning of the 2026/27 school year with a community event in Ħamrun on Sunday, 27 September.

Organised by Ċelestini Kids & Youth Club as part of the 47th anniversary celebrations of Għaqda Mużikali Immakulata Kunċizzjoni Ħamrun, the morning will combine a special blessing for the new school year with entertainment and activities for families.

A Blessing For Students, Teachers And School Bags

The day will begin with Mass at 9.30am at the Immaculate Conception Church in Ħamrun, celebrated by Canon Fr Franco Fenech, the organisation’s spiritual director.

During Mass, students, teachers and LSEs will receive a blessing for the new school year, together with their school bags.

Following Mass, the celebrations will continue outside the premises of Għaqda Mużikali Immakulata Kunċizzjoni.

Music, Dancing And Activities For Children

A varied programme will include performances by Ellie Mifsud and Julia Mifsud Tanti, Christabelle Scerri, Look Star Dancers and Fantasy Show Girls.

Children will also be able to meet popular characters presented by theatrical group MaskArti, while Kavallier Charles Vella and the Maltese kite will also form part of the programme.

The 13th Hamrun Girl Guides and 1st Hamrun Boys Scouts Group will participate, with face painting, games, food and drinks also planned.

The Directorate for Health Promotion will have an information section at the event, while children attending will receive a keepsake to mark the occasion.

Ukrainian Youngsters Join The Celebration

In keeping with the organisers’ emphasis on inclusion, the Kalyna group, led by Ms Kamila Kokha, will be among the special guests. The group of Ukrainian young dancers will perform during the event.

The organisation is also running a collection of non-perishable food for Ukrainian families living in Malta.

Free Parking Available

The event is open to the Maltese and Gozitan public, with families invited to join the celebrations and welcome the new school year together.

Free parking will be available at the former Lyceum in Ħamrun.
