Maltese racing driver Jacob Micallef secured a points finish during a demanding Spanish F4 weekend at Jerez, climbing from 12th on the grid to ninth in the opening race.
The 16-year-old Campos Racing driver competed at the Circuito de Jerez Ángel Nieto from 25 to 27 September, with the official Spanish F4 results confirming his ninth-place finish in Race 1.
Strong Start Turns Into Points
Micallef arrived at the race weekend after two days of testing in which he remained inside the top 10, before continuing to show promising pace during Friday practice.
His first qualifying session was interrupted by a red flag while he was on a lap that his team believed could have placed him fifth. He eventually started the opening two races from P12 and P10.
Race 1 provided the strongest result of the weekend. Micallef moved through the field from 12th to ninth, securing championship points and remaining close to the cars ahead until the finish.
Contact Disrupts Races Two And Three
Micallef again made progress at the start of Race 2, moving into ninth before contact at Turn 6 following a Safety Car restart spun him to the back of the field. He continued racing and eventually finished P23.
Sunday brought another difficult race after Micallef qualified P11. He climbed to ninth on the opening lap, but further contact left his car heavily damaged. Despite the setback, he continued to the finish and crossed the line in P20.
Reflecting on the weekend, Micallef said he was taking confidence from the pace shown in Jerez and felt he had been capable of fighting inside the top 10 before the incidents affected his results.
Navarra Next For Micallef
Micallef will now turn his attention to the next Spanish F4 round at Navarra from 9 to 11 October. The Navarra event is the penultimate round on the championship’s 2026 calendar.
The Jerez weekend continues Micallef’s first full Spanish F4 campaign, during a season in which the Maltese driver has also competed in selected GB3 Championship rounds with Hitech.
