International Coffee Day Is Here, So Malta Has Every Excuse For Another Cup

·

3 min read

Coffee lovers across Malta and Gozo have an easy excuse for one more cup today, 1 October, as International Coffee Day is celebrated around the world.

The annual occasion celebrates coffee while also recognising the huge chain of people behind every cup, from farmers and producers to roasters, baristas and businesses.

Members of the International Coffee Organization agreed in 2014 to mark 1 October as a common International Coffee Day. The occasion reached another milestone in 2026, when the United Nations General Assembly formally designated 1 October as International Coffee Day.

So, how are you having yours?

For some, it is a quick espresso before work. For others, it is a cappuccino with breakfast, an iced coffee in the afternoon or simply the cup that gets a good conversation going.

However you take yours, International Coffee Day is a chance to appreciate not just the drink itself, but all the work that happens before coffee reaches the cup.

And if you were already planning another coffee today, consider this your excuse.
