A 44-year-old man has been arrested after Police said he was found in connection with the importation of approximately 35 kilos of suspected cocaine.
According to The Malta Police Force, the suspected drugs have an estimated street value of around €4.5 million.
The case began when the man was stopped by Customs Officers after disembarking from a catamaran that had arrived in Malta from Sicily.
Police said assistance was requested due to the man’s suspicious behaviour. He was then arrested and escorted to the Police garage in Floriana.
Following searches, officers discovered packages containing the suspected cocaine. The packages were allegedly concealed inside a compartment within the vehicle.
The man was arraigned in Court today, where he pleaded not guilty. He was remanded in custody.
As the case is now before the courts, the man is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
