Malta’s kickboxing scene will have plenty to follow this weekend, as two of the country’s leading fighters prepare for important international title bouts.
This Saturday, 27th June, Victor Galea and Emma Xuereb will both represent Malta under Team Noel Malta, with each athlete stepping into the ring for a prestigious WKN K1 PRO-AM championship contest.
Victor Galea will be competing in Madrid, Spain, where he is set to contest a rematch for the WKN K1 PRO-AM World Title against a strong Spanish opponent.
For Galea, the bout is another major moment in a career built on years of training, discipline, and commitment. A victory would not only mark a significant personal achievement, but would also further strengthen Malta’s presence in the international kickboxing scene.
He will be supported by his coaches Samuele Andolina and Redent Galea as he aims to bring the world title back to Malta.
Emma Xuereb will also be flying the Maltese flag abroad, as she travels to Belfast, Northern Ireland, to challenge Grace Goody of ProKick for the WKN K1 PRO-AM European Title.
The fight will take place at the Stormont Hotel and will be contested over five two-minute rounds at 56.6kg. Xuereb will be accompanied by her coach, Master Noel Mercieca, and assistant coach Dillion Mamo.
Her opportunity comes after a series of strong performances, and this title bout gives her another chance to continue her rise on the international stage. Facing a hometown opponent will be a tough challenge, but Xuereb will be looking to make Malta proud with another determined display.
Both Galea and Xuereb will be carrying the Maltese flag in high-profile championship contests, highlighting the progress being made in K1 and kickboxing locally.
Their participation also reflects the work being done by Team Noel Malta in developing athletes capable of competing at elite level abroad.
The Maltese sporting community will no doubt be following closely and wishing both fighters every success as they aim to bring international honours back home.
