Malta’s night sky has taken centre stage in a beautiful astrophotography shot captured from Miġra l-Ferħa, Mtaħleb.
The image, taken on 18 June 2026 by Ewi Photography, shows the Milky Way stretching across the sky above the cliffs, with the sea and surrounding landscape adding to the calm, dramatic scene.
While Malta is often celebrated for its beaches, festas and historic streets, this photo offers a quieter side of the islands — one that appears after sunset, when the sky opens up and the landscape takes on a completely different mood.
According to the photographer, the image was created using a tracked and stacked method, a technique often used in astrophotography to bring out more detail in the night sky.
The gear details shared with the photo include a Nikon 14-30mm lens at 24mm, with settings of f/4, three minutes per frame and ISO 400. The final result was made using 15 light frames and 5 dark frames.
Beyond the technical side, the photo has also sparked a sense of wonder, with the photographer asking followers whether we are alone in the vast galaxy — or whether another civilisation could be looking back at our star right now.
