A restaurant brand that found its home and grew in Malta is preparing to take its first step beyond the island.
Mamma’s Sugar, Brunch & Burger is opening its first international location in North Macedonia, marking an important new chapter for the Malta-built business.
The expansion also carries a personal meaning for founder Alen Osman. Originally from North Macedonia, Osman built his business and established the Mamma’s Sugar brand while living in Malta.
A business journey shaped in Malta
According to the company, Osman arrived in Malta with family recipes, a strong work ethic and a belief in warm, genuine hospitality.
Malta eventually became more than the place where he worked. It became his home and the country where his restaurant journey developed.
Over the years, Osman established three restaurants, with Mamma’s Sugar becoming a familiar name within Malta’s food scene.
The brand says its identity has remained closely connected to family recipes, generous hospitality and food designed to bring people together.
Maltese flavours heading overseas
The new North Macedonia location will not simply recreate the existing concept.
Alongside the family recipes that inspired the brand, the café plans to introduce authentic Maltese flavours and traditional dishes to customers in North Macedonia.
This will give visitors the opportunity to experience part of Malta’s culinary culture through a business whose success was shaped on the islands.
The company has not yet provided the exact location or official opening date for the new café.
Connecting Malta and North Macedonia through food
For Osman, the opening represents something of a full-circle moment.
He left North Macedonia and found the opportunity to build his future in Malta. He is now returning to his home country with a business influenced by the community and culture that supported its growth.
The story highlights how food can create connections between different places and cultures.
It is also a positive example of a locally developed brand using its Maltese roots as part of its first international expansion.
Mamma’s Sugar described the move as more than a business milestone. It is intended to celebrate the connection between Malta and North Macedonia while sharing the traditions of both countries around the same table.
Further details about the opening are expected to be announced by the company.
