A Maltese soldier has successfully completed an intensive mountaineering programme organised by the Italian Army in Aosta, Italy.
Lance Bombardier Agius Arnold, who serves with C Company in the 1 Regiment of the Armed Forces of Malta, took part in the 20-day Basic Mountaineering Course at the Centro Addestramento Alpino.
The course brought together 25 participants from three countries. The group was made up of 22 Italian soldiers, two Lebanese soldiers and one Maltese soldier.
Training was carried out in demanding mountainous environments at altitudes ranging from 2,000 to 3,500 metres.
Throughout the programme, participants developed the practical skills required to move and operate safely across alpine terrain.
The training covered rope work, mountaineering knots and belaying techniques, together with casualty recovery and emergency procedures.
Participants also gained experience in glacier movement and safe navigation across challenging mountain environments.
Completing the course is expected to contribute to the Armed Forces of Malta’s operational capabilities by adding specialised skills that can be used in difficult terrain and emergency situations.
The Armed Forces of Malta congratulated Lance Bombardier Agius Arnold on successfully completing the programme.
