Sergeant Nicholas Pullicino, a member of C Company, 1 Regiment within the Armed Forces of Malta, has been recognised for completing three major international ultra-marathon events over the past two years.

His most recent achievement was the Lavaredo Ultra Trail, a demanding 120km race held through the rugged mountain terrain of the Italian Dolomites.

The event forms part of the UTMB World Series, an international circuit bringing together some of the world’s most challenging trail-running races.

Three demanding endurance events

Alongside the Lavaredo Ultra Trail, Sergeant Pullicino has successfully completed the 120km Ultra Trail Chianti Castles and the Istria 100-Mile Race.

Ultra-marathons require runners to cover distances longer than a traditional 42.2km marathon, often across mountains, uneven trails and difficult weather conditions.

Completing one such race requires months of physical preparation, careful planning and mental resilience. Taking on three major events while continuing to fulfil military duties makes Sergeant Pullicino’s achievement particularly noteworthy.

Discipline on and off duty

The Armed Forces of Malta praised the sergeant’s discipline and determination, highlighting the commitment needed to balance military responsibilities with intensive endurance training.

His accomplishments reflect not only strong physical ability but also consistency, focus and perseverance over a long period of time.

Congratulations to Sergeant Nicholas Pullicino on representing Malta and the Armed Forces in the international ultra-running community.
