Malta Welcomed Over Four Million Tourists During 2025
More than four million inbound tourists visited the Maltese Islands during 2025, according to figures published by Malta’s National Statistics Office.
The official total reached 4,022,310 tourists, representing an increase of 12.9% when compared with 2024.
Tourist expenditure was estimated at €3.904 billion, up by 18.6% over the previous year. Average expenditure per tourist also increased, rising from €924 in 2024 to €971 in 2025.
Visitors Spent More Nights in Malta and Gozo
Inbound tourists spent a combined 25.4 million nights in the Maltese Islands during the year. This was an increase of 11% compared with 2024.
NSO figures also indicate that approximately 2.3 million tourists visited Gozo and Comino during their trip, including both same-day and overnight visitors.
The largest markets recorded during December included the United Kingdom, Italy and Poland, which together accounted for almost half of inbound tourists that month.
Spending Grew Faster Than Arrivals
One notable part of the results is that tourist spending increased more quickly than the number of arrivals.
While tourist numbers rose by 12.9%, total expenditure increased by 18.6%. This helped bring annual tourism spending close to the €4 billion mark. Government tourism officials described the expenditure level as a new record and said the sector’s future direction should focus on value, sustainability and stronger engagement with local communities.
The figures underline tourism’s considerable economic importance. At the same time, continued growth brings questions about infrastructure, transport, public spaces, services and the experience of people living in heavily visited areas.
Balancing strong tourism performance with residents’ quality of life will therefore remain an important part of the national discussion.
