AFM Rescues Teenager from Rough Seas off Xatt l-Aħmar

The Armed Forces of Malta assisted two teenagers who found themselves in difficulty at sea off Xatt l-Aħmar in Għajnsielem, Gozo, on Sunday evening.

According to an official communication issued by the AFM, the Rescue Coordination Centre received a report that the two teenagers were struggling while attempting to reach the shore because of rough sea conditions.

One reached shore while the other was rescued

One of the teenagers managed to make it safely to land without further assistance.

An Armed Forces of Malta vessel was then deployed to rescue the second teenager from the water.

The official communication confirms that the operation was carried out in response to the difficult sea conditions in the area.

Even swimmers who are confident in the water can quickly find themselves in trouble when waves, currents and strong winds make it difficult to reach the shore.

People visiting coastal areas are encouraged to assess the conditions before entering the water and to avoid taking unnecessary risks when the sea is rough.

The quick response by the rescue authorities helped bring the incident to a safe conclusion.
