Maltese Creator Shares Spider-Man 2 Virtual Photography Ahead Of New Film

·

Maltese creator Daniel Joseph Mallia has released a series of Spider-Man images composed entirely inside Marvel’s Spider-Man 2.

Instead of photographing a real actor or physical location, Mallia used the video game’s digital environment to select poses, lighting, backgrounds and camera angles.

The submitted collection includes five different compositions, ranging from close character portraits to wider action scenes. Mallia said the image showing Spider-Man firing a web towards the camera had attracted the strongest response from his initial release.

What Is Virtual Photography?

Virtual photography uses the tools available inside a video game to create still images.

Many modern games include a dedicated photo mode that lets players pause the action, reposition the camera and adjust elements such as focus, exposure and composition.

The finished result can therefore reflect the photographer’s individual visual style, even though the characters and setting come from an existing game.

Mallia’s images should be labelled clearly as fan-created virtual photography. They are not official stills from Spider-Man: Brand New Day and do not show scenes from the film.

Timed Ahead Of Spider-Man’s Return To Cinemas

The series was submitted ahead of the release of Spider-Man: Brand New Day.

Marvel lists the film’s cinema release for 31 July 2026. It is directed by Destin Daniel Cretton and stars Tom Holland as Peter Parker.

The timing gives Mallia’s work a natural connection to the renewed attention surrounding the character while allowing the story to focus on a Maltese creator experimenting with an emerging visual format.
