Gozo were crowned champions of a street-football tournament in Buġibba after Matteo Camilleri scored a golden goal to settle the final against Brazil.
The final had ended 2–2 during regular play, with Ian Zarb scoring both of Gozo’s earlier goals before Camilleri delivered the decisive finish.
The match was played at the three-a-side Bognor pitch in Buġibba.
An Unbeaten Route To The Final
Gozo began their tournament with two high-scoring draws.
They drew 4–4 against Spain before meeting Brazil during the group stage, when the two sides shared 12 goals in a 6–6 result.
Gozo then recorded a 5–0 victory against United Africa.
Their semi-final brought them up against Malta, with Gozo securing their place in the final through a 4–0 win.
That result produced a second meeting with Brazil, although the final proved considerably tighter than their earlier group-stage contest.
One Final Goal Decides The Winner
Gozo and Brazil each scored twice during regular play, leaving the tournament to be decided through a golden goal.
Camilleri scored the winner after Zarb’s two earlier finishes, securing the title for the Gozo team.
Organisers Maria Coppola and James Almeida presented the awards following the conclusion of the tournament.
