Malta International Airport handled 1,187,590 passengers during July 2026, marking a 14.7% increase compared with the same month last year.

According to Malta International Airport, July’s seat load factor stood at 87.6%, despite available seat capacity increasing by 17.4%. The airport also said the Maltese Islands benefited from an average of 108 flights per day during the summer months as aircraft movements increased.

Italy Becomes Malta Airport’s Biggest Market

Italy ranked as Malta International Airport’s largest passenger market during July, overtaking the United Kingdom for the first time since February.

Just over one fifth of passengers travelled to or from Italy during the month. Malta International Airport attributed the growth to additional capacity being introduced on several Italian routes for the summer season.

The United Kingdom ranked second, while Poland moved into third place after passenger traffic from the Polish market increased by almost 50% compared with July last year.

Germany and France completed the airport’s top five markets. Germany recorded a marginal decline, while passenger traffic from France fell by 5.1%. Malta International Airport linked the decreases mainly to reduced flight frequencies on several routes.

A Busy Summer At Malta’s Airport

The figures underline another busy summer period for Malta International Airport, with both passenger numbers and available flight capacity continuing to rise.

With almost 1.19 million passenger movements recorded in July alone and an average of 108 daily flights during the summer months, the airport continues to handle significant volumes at the height of Malta’s travel season.
