Staff Sergeant Lisa Micallef of the Armed Forces of Malta’s Air Wing has become the first Maltese person to receive a Master Technician Award from FlightSafety International in Wichita, Kansas.
The achievement follows the completion of six specialised aviation technical training courses focused on the King Air B200 series, covering mechanical and avionics systems, advanced troubleshooting and operational maintenance.
FlightSafety International describes its Master Technician programme as one of its programmes designed to recognise technical skills, with aircraft-specific training forming part of the pathway towards the award.
A career marked by aviation milestones
Micallef has spent nine years with the AFM Air Wing and has reached several milestones during her career.
She became the first female technician in her section to obtain an EASA Mechanical Aircraft Maintenance Licence, before becoming the first female technician in the Air Wing to obtain an EASA Avionics Aircraft Maintenance Licence.
She subsequently became the first member of the Air Wing to hold both licences.
Micallef has also completed an Advanced Diploma in Aviation Maintenance at the University of Malta.
Her latest achievement adds an international training milestone to a career built around aircraft maintenance and technical development within Malta’s Air Wing.
