It might be August, but Carnival is coming back to Malta’s streets.
Il-Karnival tas-Sajf returns this weekend, bringing three evenings of floats, dancing and Carnival colour to Buġibba and Marsaskala.
The 2026 Summer Carnival will run from Friday 21 to Sunday 23 August, with the first two evenings taking place in Buġibba before the celebrations move south to Marsaskala on Sunday.
Two Nights In Buġibba
The celebrations begin in Buġibba on Friday 21 August at 7pm, with the first parade starting from Dawret il-Gżejjer and continuing along the promenade towards the Malta National Aquarium.
Summer Carnival returns to Buġibba for a second evening on Saturday 22 August, again from 7pm. This time, the parade is set to leave from the Malta National Aquarium and continue along the promenade towards Triq il-Ħalel.
This year’s edition will feature 15 Carnival floats, adapted for the summer celebrations, together with participating dance companies.
The event gives Malta’s Carnival artists another opportunity to bring their work to the streets outside the traditional February season, this time against a summer seaside backdrop.
Carnival Heads To Marsaskala On Sunday
The celebrations then move south on Sunday 23 August, when Marsaskala, Wied il-Għajn, hosts the final evening of Summer Carnival.
The parade is set to begin from the Żonqor car park near the swimming pool, before continuing through Triq iż-Żonqor, passing near the parish church and heading along Triq ix-Xatt.
The Marsaskala route has been adjusted for this year’s edition, allowing the Carnival celebrations to reach more parts of the locality.

The event is organised by Festivals Malta together with the St Paul’s Bay and Marsaskala local councils.
With 15 floats, dance companies and three evenings of celebrations, Summer Carnival offers another chance to enjoy one of Malta’s most colourful traditions without waiting until February.
