·

3 min read

Cat lovers have something new to look forward to in Bormla, with a public property set to be transformed into a Cat Café and community space.

The Lands Authority and Bormla Local Council have signed a five-year agreement covering a 1,571-square-metre property in Triq it-Tlett Ibliet.

Under the agreement, the council will take over the site and develop it into a space intended both for the local community and for cats in the area.

The project aims to give the public property a new purpose while improving the surrounding environment and providing a suitable space for local felines.

Bormla Mayor Marco Agius said the project will bring together a love for animals and the need for more accessible community spaces, while also benefiting those who care for the area’s street cats.

Housing and Lands Minister Owen Bonnici and Local Government and Public Works Minister Alison Zerafa Civelli also highlighted the role local councils can play in giving public properties new uses that directly benefit residents.

An opening date and further details on how the Cat Café will operate have not yet been announced.
