Today, 25th August, marks exactly four months until Christmas Day, with 122 days separating us from 25th December.
It might feel slightly early to be thinking about Christmas while Malta is still firmly in summer mode, but the countdown to one of the country’s most anticipated times of year has begun.
From summer heat to Christmas lights
For now, we’re still dealing with August temperatures, beach days and the final stretch of summer. In a few months, however, Malta will look very different.
Christmas lights will return to streets and village squares, homes will bring out their decorations and cribs, and festive events will begin filling the December calendar.
For many Maltese families, Christmas also means traditions that go well beyond presents. Family gatherings, church celebrations, Christmas Eve, seasonal food and visits to decorated localities all form part of the festive period.
122 days to go
There is still plenty of time before anyone needs to panic about presents or start planning Christmas lunch.
But for those who start their Christmas shopping early, plan December trips months ahead or simply spend half the year waiting to put the decorations back up, today’s milestone might be all the excuse needed to start getting excited.
So while Malta enjoys the remaining weeks of summer, the countdown is officially on.
