Malta Ranks 15th in Europe in Combined 2026 Water Polo Rankings

Malta has placed 15th in Europe in the combined men’s and women’s national water polo rankings for 2026.

The latest figures published by European Aquatics give Malta a combined total of 18,383.5 points, placing the country 15th in the European standings.

Men 13th and women 18th

According to the 2026 ranking figures shared by the Aquatic Sports Association of Malta, Malta’s men’s national programme is ranked 13th with 11,442.5 points, while the women’s programme stands 18th with 6,941 points.

Together, those results put Malta 15th in the combined European ranking.

A strong year for Maltese water polo

The ranking comes during a busy year for the sport. Malta competed at the 2026 Men’s European Water Polo Championships in Belgrade, its sixth appearance at the main European Championships.

Malta’s younger players have also recorded notable results. The men’s U20 national team finished ninth at the 2026 European Championships in Varna after beating the Netherlands 15-12 in its final classification match.

At club level, Malta also hosted major European competition during the 2025/26 season, including the men’s and women’s Champions League Final Fours.

The latest rankings provide another snapshot of Malta’s position within European water polo, across both the men’s and women’s national programmes.
