Boyfriends, today might be your day.
October 3 is widely marked online as National Boyfriend Day, an unofficial celebration dedicated to showing a little extra appreciation for the boyfriend in your life.
Unlike Valentine’s Day, this is not an official holiday and there is no firmly established organisation or person behind it. Its origins are surprisingly difficult to pin down, although the occasion gained traction through social media during the 2010s.
So What Are You Supposed To Do?
There are no rules, which is probably part of the appeal.
A thoughtful message, favourite meal, coffee date, spontaneous outing or simply spending some proper time together all count. And, naturally, plenty of people use October 3 as an excuse to post their partner on social media.
If grand romantic gestures are not really your thing, that is fine too. The basic idea is simply to acknowledge someone you appreciate.
October 3 Has Another Romantic Connection
There is a rather fitting coincidence for pop culture fans. October 3 is also Mean Girls Day, thanks to the famous classroom exchange between Cady Heron and her crush Aaron Samuels in the 2004 film.
Whether the overlap helped National Boyfriend Day settle on October 3 is less certain, so we will not pretend there is a grand romantic history behind it.
But if you needed an excuse for a Saturday date in Malta, the internet has apparently provided one.
