Maltese triathlete Graham Borg won the Matera Duathlon in Italy on Sunday, securing the Masters 2 (M2) title in the Magna Grecia Trofeo Triathlon regional league.
The result marked Borg’s seventh age-category victory of the season and saw him finish the regional league with 550 points the highest tally across all age categories.
The Magna Grecia league featured five events, with Borg competing in four. He won his M2 category in every race he entered, including the final sprint duathlon in Matera.
Borg’s success also contributed to a team victory for ASD Mothycense. The team went into the final race in second place overall, but strong performances in Matera.
Borg said, “To be standing on the top of the podium with this team just one year later is a very rewarding personal achievement. Although I’m a Maltese athlete, the team has welcomed me like family, and they have become a support system that has helped me enjoy the sport again.”
With the Southern Italy regional title secured and the team crowned overall champions, Borg now turns his attention to the Sicilian regional standings, aiming to finish his first season back in competitive triathlon on another high note.
