Maltese strongman Tony Farrugia has broken two new world records during a charity event organised by Qalb iż-Żrieraq in aid of Hospice Malta.
The strength and endurance challenge took place at Ġnien il-Ġibjun in Żurrieq as part of the Horizon Beer Festival, drawing a large crowd eager to watch Farrugia push his physical limits.
His first challenge involved carrying a sand-filled medicine ball from one side to the other. Farrugia completed the challenge 12 times, breaking a record previously held by an Italian competitor. The weight he carried was four times heavier than that used for the previous record.
In the second challenge, Farrugia had to lift an 80-kilogramme bag filled with sand and throw it over his shoulder to a distance of five metres. He completed the feat seven times in just one minute one more than the previous record of six.
The latest achievements add to Farrugia’s growing list of records, including his recent Guinness World Records for lifting a 48.1-kilogramme person overhead using his little finger and completing 13 one-handed overhead presses with a 54-kilogramme washing machine in one minute.
