Full-time employees in Malta are entitled to 24 days of annual leave. However, with some clever planning, they could enjoy up to 60 days off throughout 2027 by combining leave with public holidays and weekends.

Here are Malta’s public holidays in 2027:

  • 1 January – New Year’s Day
  • 10 February – Feast of St Paul’s Shipwreck
  • 19 March – Feast of St Joseph
  • 26 March – Good Friday
  • 31 March – Freedom Day
  • 1 May – Workers’ Day
  • 7 June – Sette Giugno
  • 29 June – Feast of St Peter and St Paul
  • 15 August – Feast of the Assumption
  • 8 September – Victory Day
  • 21 September – Independence Day
  • 8 December – Feast of the Immaculate Conception
  • 13 December – Republic Day
  • 25 December – Christmas Day

March features three public holidays: St Joseph’s Day on Friday 19 March, Good Friday on 26 March and Freedom Day on Wednesday 31 March.

In June, Sette Giugno falls on Monday 7 June, creating a long weekend without using any annual leave.

September also offers opportunities to extend your time off, with Victory Day falling on Wednesday 8 September and Independence Day on Tuesday 21 September.

Towards the end of the year, Republic Day falls on Monday 13 December, while Christmas Day falls on Saturday 25 December.

By booking annual leave strategically around these dates, workers can make the most of long weekends and extended breaks while preserving their leave allowance.
