The 2027 Budget includes a number of measures aimed at supporting Maltese workers, pensioners, carers, children and families, with the €1,000 tax-free Super Bonus among the headline announcements.
Some of the main announcements include:
• A €1,000 tax-free Super Bonus for eligible workers, with pro-rata payments for those earning less.
• Pension reform allowing contributions to be transferred between spouses, helping more women qualify for a pension.
• Increased support for carers, including those caring full-time for older people.
• 10 additional days of leave for foster parents to bond with new children.
• 10 days of paid sports leave for elite athletes.
• Higher eco-contribution/tourist tax and increased work permit fees for non-EU workers.
• A new VAT mechanism and further measures aimed at improving the visitor experience and increasing value per tourist.
