Malta among EU countries with lowest household electricity prices

Malta ranked among the European Union countries with the lowest household electricity prices in the first half of 2026, with Eurostat figures showing that the country recorded the third-lowest rates across the bloc when measured in purchasing power standards (PPS).

Electricity prices in Malta stood at 13.8 PPS per 100 kilowatt-hours (kWh), placing the country among the three cheapest EU member states for household consumers.

Only Hungary and Luxembourg recorded similarly low prices, at 14.7 PPS and 15.5 PPS per 100 kWh respectively.

At the other end of the scale, Romania recorded the highest household electricity prices in the EU, at 46.9 PPS per 100 kWh. Poland followed at 41.1 PPS, while Czechia ranked third highest at 34.3 PPS.

The figures compare household electricity prices using purchasing power standards, a measure which takes account of differences in price levels between countries. This provides a more meaningful comparison of the relative cost of electricity across the EU than simply comparing prices in euros.
