The memory of late Maltese DJ Ryan Spiteri was honoured during the festa celebrations in Ħaż-Żabbar, with Banda San Mikiel paying tribute to a familiar face within Malta’s entertainment and festa communities.
During the afternoon march, Għaqda Madonna tal-Grazzja, Banda San Mikiel displayed a large commemorative banner featuring Spiteri’s portrait, his name and the years 1979 to 2026.
The celebrations also briefly paused as those present remembered the Żabbar DJ, adding a poignant moment to this year’s festivities.
A familiar face at Malta’s festas
Spiteri died in July 2026 at the age of 47. He was well known within Malta’s entertainment scene, including through his Rewind events and his work as a radio presenter.
His connection with local festas extended to a number of band clubs. Following his death, Għaqda Madonna tal-Grazzja, Banda San Mikiel remembered Spiteri as a supporter of the association and recalled the moments they had shared during the Żabbar feast marches.
The latest tribute brought that connection back into focus, remembering Spiteri within the Żabbar festa tradition of which he had been a part.
